Essentials of Health - Spiritual Well-Being

  • Meditate effectively.
This is the path to your inner self and energies. Sit alone, in silence, for 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening if you can. Reach that inner silence and stillness where you can find the answers you are looking for.
This is probably the most powerful and liberating technique one can ever learn and experience. It is beautifully explained by Eckhart Tolle in his wonderful and highly inspirational books “The Power of Now” and “Practicing the Power of Now”. See below.
Go outside, hike, go camping, or have nature field trips. Remain in the here and now and feel your connection with nature and the connection that exists between all living things and the rest of the universe.
Each of us has a unique talent and a unique way of expressing it. Find out what it is for you; express it and share it with the world.
A spiritual perspective gives a sense of belonging and purpose in life. Many will experience success in many aspects, but without a sense of belonging and purpose, they may also often feel that their life remains unfulfilled. These people may appear to be very successful to an outside observer, but they remain deeply unsatisfied, most often without even knowing why. Many will feel that something is still missing.
They may feel a deep, almost painful longing for a higher meaning or for something they feel is lying deep inside. That “something” often feels so close and yet unfathomably out of reach. Like the man in Paulo Coelho’s “The Alchemist”, they may travel the world for years and years, looking for answers, not realizing that during all that time, the treasure was right there, buried in their own garden.

Spirituality in its broader sense does not necessarily imply being “religious”, as defined by the “big” religions; it encompasses a wide variety of beliefs and practices.  Interestingly, the word “religion” comes from the Latin verb “religare”, which literally means “relate” in the sense of establishing connections. That is what spirituality is about: feeling the connection between the higher self and the rest of humanity, nature, and the whole universe.

  • Who are you? Where are you coming from?
  • Why are you here? What is your true nature?
  • Where are you going? What is your destiny?

Those three simple questions are at the core of the spiritual quest.

Most spiritual traditions will say that the answers lie deep inside of us. As you travel to the core of any spiritual tradition, you will discover a common basis to all: all teach the same principles of justice, compassion, and service; and all indicate that the light can be found within your inner self. “Know thyself”, as it is written over the entrance to the Temple of Delphi. Socrates added, “Know thyself and you will know the universe and the gods”. Therefore, the spiritual path requires that we reconnect with our inner self and energies. This is the ultimate quest. It requires that we learn, understand, and apply the immutable spiritual and universal laws to our lives and to our quest. Only living in harmony with the universal laws will help us find the profound inner peace that we are all longing for.

How can this be achieved?

At the beginning, a few exercises and simple actions can help explore our inner self and find who we truly are, what our true beliefs are, what our real talents are, what we truly love and want to be, and, ultimately, what our connection with the rest of humanity is. The more we progress on this path, the better we become at feeling our connection with the world and the more we become able to develop that inner peace we all yearn for.

It is said that everyone has at least one unique talent and a unique way of expressing it. It is said that it is our mission and purpose in life to find it and develop it. When this is done, and when this talent is shared with the world, one can reach an inner peace that is unequalled. This can be done by learning, discovering, and applying the universal laws to your life.

How can I discover and develop my unique talent? How can I learn and live in harmony with the laws of the universe?
